Few people are born with perfectly straight teeth. The most common way to straighten teeth is with metal braces that are bonded to the teeth and linked with metal wires. Unfortunately, braces can be clunky, take years to work, and affect the wearer’s self-esteem.

Fortunately, there is a better way to straighten teeth: Invisalign®.  At The Glen Dental in San Jose, California, Aman Bhullar, DMD, and his experienced team of dental professionals have extensive experience with the Invisalign system and will ensure that you get the best care possible to improve your smile.

What causes crooked teeth?

There are a number of reasons that teeth can be crooked. They include:

  • Genetics
  • Improper fit of dental fillings
  • Gum disease
  • Injury to the mouth or face
  • Thumb sucking, pacifier use, or bottle use

In addition to looking unattractive, misaligned teeth can also cause more dental problems. When your top teeth and bottom teeth don’t meet correctly, this can cause uneven wear on some teeth. It can also cause headaches, jaw problems, difficulty cleaning teeth, difficulty speaking, and self-esteem issues.

What is Invisalign?

Invisalign is a modern, discreet teeth straightening system that allows you to get straight, beautiful teeth much more quickly than it would take with traditional braces. With Invisalign, you get a series of clear, plastic aligners, and each set is slightly adjusted.

Every two weeks or so, you take out one set and put in a new one. When you take out your final set, your teeth will be perfectly aligned. While treatment times can vary, many patients are finished in 6-18 months.

You should wear your aligners for 20-22 hours a day. You can take them out to eat, brush your teeth, and floss. You can also take them out for special occasions. And due to the clear plastic, most people won’t even know you’re wearing them unless you tell them.

What is the treatment process?

First, Dr. Bhullar completes a dental examination and talks with you to determine what your goals are and if Invisalign is right for you. If you proceed, Dr. Bhullar takes digital scans of your teeth.

The Invisalign system, which uses special software to analyze the scans, then plans each stage of your treatment, mapping out the locations of your teeth and where they need to go. Once everything is mapped out, Dr. Bhullar sends the results to a lab where your aligners are created.

What are the advantages of Invisalign?

Invisalign is a great system for straightening teeth because it’s:

  • Quick
  • Discreet
  • Flexible
  • Safe
  • High tech

Although you may not have been born with perfectly straight teeth, Invisalign can give you the smile of your dreams and the confidence that can come with it.
